Show Pigs!

Kelly Billings is one of the Sales Representatives that helps people build homes with Nilson Homes.  He has a very unique hobby!  He raises Show Pigs!

Journey

One of Kelly Billing's Show Pigs

He originally got started raising pigs in High School with the FFA Club.  After High School, he didn’t raise pigs again until his kids were old enough to show pigs with the 4H Club in Weber County. His kids only wanted to raise Show Pigs for a couple of years.  During those two years, Kelly found out that he had an eye for what the Judges liked in Show Pigs.  His oldest daughter, with the help of one of his sons, raised a Great Show Pig.  In this short two years, the Billings’ family was able to obtain the Award of Grand Champion Show Pig at the Weber County Fair.  There are families that try for years and never attain this award.

After a 10 year gap, Kelly decided to get back into raising Show Pigs.  However, now he breeds and raises Show Pigs for the 4H and FFA Clubs.  Last year he sold 8 Show Pigs.  This year he teamed up with a partner and they have already sold close to 300 pigs  this year.  His deadline to order this year is March 30th.  He has been getting  calls from Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Oregon, Idaho and Utah.  Kelly has a blogsite:  www.utahshowpig.blogspot.com

Amongst all of Kelly’s activities of raising pigs and helping people buy homes from Nilson Homes, he is also having Nilson Homes start a new home for himself and his family!  We are very excited to build his new dream home!

Corporate Meeting 2010

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Nilson Homes recently held our annual “Corporate Meeting”.  We got everyone together to discuss the successes and failures of the previous year and to plan for the year to come.  This year was an especially good meeting because there is such an excitement for what is ahea

d of us over the next year.  We also feel very happy that we were able to have such a successful previous year, despite the challenges of our economy.

We first heard from our Sales and Marketing Director, Jed Nilson.  He spoke about the plans to make Nilson Homes a more personalized company when it comes to marketing.  Instead of representing our company with high priced ads and paid celebrities, Nilson Homes will interact with the public through the voice of our homeowners.  We plan on getting even more testimonials from our homeowners and posting them on various websites so that potential buyers can hear what our homeowners have to say about our homes and the experience of having us build for them.

We then heard from our VP, David Lowry.  He explained the challenges that exist in the world of construction financing.  He has prepared a very calculated plan to deal with these challenges by continuing great relationships with Banks, utilizing our current assets to obtain financing and also obtaining new resources for private financing for developments and spec/model homes.  We feel very prepared to take on any new obstacles that the lending world might put before us.

Our Production Director, Kirt Merrill then demonstrated to us the differences in how we used to build homes vs. the way we currently build and will continue to build in the future.  As is the case with all good companies, Nilson Homes strives to improve our homes and our service on a regular basis.  We have accomplished numerous advances over the past year.  Amongst many things, we have significantly reduced the price of our homes, we have increased the speed of construction to where we can build a home in 90 days and we have increased customer satisfaction by improving the process of drafting plans and selecting colors and options.

The meeting was finalized by the Owner/President of Nilson Homes, Bruce Nilson.  He laid out the vision of the future of Nilson Homes.  We will continue to improve on living up to our mission statement, “Our mission is to build quality, custom new homes in a timely manner while providing exceptional customer service with a personal touch.”  That means that we will focus more and more on the homeowner and improving their experience in building their dream home.  We will also strive to provide the best energy efficient homes to help families enjoy their new home on a smaller budget.  We will also strive to provide the very best in customer service so that we continue build homes for the friends and families of our current homeowners.

Even though there are many challenges ahead of us, this meeting reinforced to all of us that we are in a wonderful position to continue to provide quality homes to families and individuals across the Wasatch Front and in Evanston, WY.  We look forward to doing this and great appreciate all those that choose Nilson Homes to build their new home.
