Thursday, August 23rd, 2012

Choosing to be more eco friendly isn’t always easy and it’s not always obvious. We’ve all been taught that cardboard is the way to go because it is recyclable. However, you might be surprised to learn that choosing plastic bins over cardboard boxes, when moving from one home to another, is actually more environmentally sound.

Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

Livability quiz, take the quiz to determine your home styleNilson Homes has always been about designing and building you the best home for you and your family. We do what it takes to make sure the house we build for you is the house you want to live in. It’s always been that way.

Building a home around the homeowner’s lifestyle sounds simple enough and yet most home builders build the house and then expect the family to adapt their lifestyle around the house. That’s backwards.

Your house should be designed for your lifestyle and no one else’s. At Nilson Homes we don’t want to build you house that anyone could have built for any homeowner. We want to make sure that the house we build for you in the Ogden area of Utah is perfectly suited to how you live your life with your family.

So go ahead and take the quiz. Learn about your lifestyle and then contact us so we can build you the dream house that meets all your needs and desires. Click here to take the Livability Quiz.

Do what you want with Maintenance Free Homes

Thursday, August 9th, 2012

Maintenance free homes – that means you get to spend your weekends doing the things you want to do and not the things you have to do like cutting grass, trimming the trees, shoveling the snow and fixing stuff.

In addition to saving you all kinds of precious weekend time ‘maintenance free’ also means you can avoid these pitfall, accidents and dangerous risks that landscapers and maintenance workers face every day.

Apple Trees and Backpack Bonanza

Tuesday, August 7th, 2012

backpack bonanzaOne in six Utah children now live in poverty. Salt Lake City’s homeless shelter, the Road Home, is bursting at the seams due to a recent influx of homeless families in need of temporary housing.

You can help these kids go back to school prepared and decked out with the tools they need to get a great education, no matter where they live.

Apple Trees  have sprouted  up at 35 DownEast, Payless ShoeSource, Salt Lake Area Staples, Sanctuary Day Spa and Intrepid sites between Ogden and Provo. The campaign began with the names, needs and sizes of 70 children, but has since more than doubled due to extreme need.

Here is what you have to do to help:

Pick up needs and sizes at DownEast, Payless ShoeSource, Salt Lake area Staples, Sanctuary Day Spa and Intrepid sites between Ogden and Provo. Drop new and unused clothing and school supplies off at any of these 35 locations through Aug. 13.

Backpack Bonanza was started up by five area businesses and nonprofit organizations — Bank of Utah, Catholic Community Services, Kid to Kid, Fox 13 and the United Way of Northern Utah — they’ve teamed up to host a Backpack Bonanza to help pre-kindergarten children through high-school students. To support Backpack Bonanza drop off school supplies and backpacks on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at any Bank of Utah branch in Salt Lake, Weber, Davis and Box Elder counties.

Other ways to help:

All Kid to Kid stores are also accepting the items, along with the United Way of Northern Utah, 2955 Harrison Blvd., Suite 201, Ogden, and Catholic Community Services locations, including the St. Vincent de Paul Dining Hall, 437 W 200 South, Salt Lake City or the Joyce Hansen Hall Food Bank, 2504 F Ave., Ogden. For more information, visit www.ccsutah.org or call 801-9778-9119 in Salt Lake City or 801-428-1295 in Ogden.

Kitchen Remodel from Start to Finish: Infographic

Thursday, August 2nd, 2012

Remodeling a kitchen can be an overwhelming task. Whether you hire someone to remodel your kitchen or you do the project yourself, it can be a much bigger project than you ever imagined if you haven’t tackled a remodel before.

At Nilson Homes we build beautiful homes with beautiful kitchens in them. Our homes are built around the lifestyle of our home buyers so the kitchen won’t need to be remodeled for generations, if ever. Our kitchens, like our homes, are built for the long haul and designed around the way you and your family live your life.

If you can’t build a new home in Utah you can still remodel the one you have. Here is an infographic to give you an idea what you are getting into before you take down that first wall.
